Self-esteem is your opinion of yourself and your abilities. It can be high, low or somewhere in-between. While everyone occasionally has doubts about themselves, low self-esteem can leave you feeling insecure and unmotivated. You might be able to identify a few things that are affecting your opinion of yourself (maybe you’re being bullied, or you might be feeling lonely), or it could be a mystery. Either way, there are some things you can do to improve your self-esteem. So here are 5 ways to boost your self-esteem!
You have to learn to be aware of your self-talk, the thoughts you have about yourself and what you’re doing. If you’re always saying to yourself “I’m not beautiful”, “I’m stupid”, “I’m weak”.., you’re only feeding your mind and your soul with the things that you don’t want to be. Try to replace negative thoughts with positive ones. Practice positive affirmations every day in front of your mirror, meditate and visualize yourself being that confident person you want to be. And as soon as you’ll learn to recognize this negative self-talk, try to learn this trick that will change everything in your life: Every time a negative thought come across your mind, say out loud “STOP”. And immediately replace it with a positive one. (“C’mon, I can do this! I got this! I am strong! I am confident…)
In order to boost your self-esteem, you should be willing to help yourself by yourself. The small task to begin with is simply doing things that make you happy. When negativity comes, a lot of people tend to give up and do nothing about it. This is the wrong thing to do. Stop being a victim of your own negative thoughts and chase them by doing something you love and by doing things that make you laugh and feel good like watching a comedy movie, dancing to your favorite song…
This is a very powerful way to boost your self-esteem. So just take a piece of paper and ask yourself this question: What are the things I can appreciate about myself? Write down your answers; then put the list in a place where you can see it every morning when you wake up. By reading this list every day, it will help you stay positive and get a good self-esteem boost. I used to do this list…
When you compare your life, yourself and what you have to other people’s lives and what they have then you have destructive habit on your hands.
Because you can never win. There is always someone who has more or is better than you at something in the world. There are always people ahead of you. But there are also some people below you and they wish they can be you or have things that you have. So replace that habit with something better. Look at how far you have come so far instead. Compare yourself to yourself. Focus on you. On your results. And on how you can and how you have improved your results. This will both motivate you and raise your self-esteem.
If you’re trying to accomplish something that is truly meaningful to you but then you fail or you made some mistakes. It’s OK. It’s totally normal. You’ve got to make mistakes in order to learn and grow, so try not to beat yourself up and learn how to handle mistakes and failures in a more positive way. Be your own best friend; you know, like instead of beating yourself up, ask yourself: How would my friend/parent support me and help me in this situation? Then do things and talk to yourself like he or she would.
