Why you should ALWAYS wet your beauty blender before every use

why you should always wet your beauty blender before every use

When it comes to applying makeup, every one of us has its own technique to do so. For me, I personally love applying my makeup with a beauty blender, especially my foundation and my concealer. I don’t know about you, but I feel like using a makeup sponge to pat the product into my skin gives me that full coverage makeup look. Otherwise, as it turns out, every time I’ve ever used a beauty blender I was using it all wrong! According to the beauty brand, you should wet your beauty blender before every use. But why? And what is the difference between using a wet and a dry beauty blender?

Less makeup waste

One of the most famous makeup sponge brands is @BeautyBlender. This brand revealed in an Instagram post that neglecting to wet your sponge actually results in a lot of makeup waste – meaning you’ll end up using more product than you need to. “One of the reasons we always say you need to wet your blender is because water causes the sponge to swell and it ensures your makeup won’t be absorbed … which results in less makeup waste,” the brand said in a photo caption on Instagram.

To prove their point, the brand filmed a video of somebody cutting a blender in half: it is crystal clear that the outside is covered in foundation and the inside still pink & perfect. And that, ladies and gentlemen, means that the inside of the blender was intact. Thus, it didn’t absorb any makeup at all.

In other words…

If that didn’t open your eyes, let me explain it to you differently; the main reason you should always wet your beauty blender before use is to stop the sponge absorbing too much makeup. If you apply your foundation to a dry sponge, it will absorb that instead and you will find yourself using and wasting a lot more product. Makes sense now, but how does it work? You should wet the sponge until it doubles its size and then squeeze it to get out the excess water. After that, put your foundation on your back of your hand or directly on your face, and start dabbing. To be honest, it will feel so awkward in the beginning, especially if you got used to using a dry beauty blender in the past (like me). But, trust me; you would love that airbrushed flawless finish look at the end.

So next time, don’t forget to give your sponge a soak before applying your makeup!

  1. […] Bronzers are used to add warmth to your complexion. And contour products are used to enhance and emulate shadows on your face to create depth and sculpt your face shape. Some of the bronzers (especially the matte ones) can be applied to help softly define your features. However, you can’t apply a bronzer in the same structured way that you apply your contour. Whatever formula your bronzer has (liquid, cream, matte or shimmery powder); it should be applied lightly. On the other hand, contour products should be buffed in with a dense brush or with a beauty blender. Check out why you should always wet you beauty blender before you use it. […]
