The color black tends to get a bad rep. After all, it’s often associated with being too plain, too goth or just too “dark.” It is said that black is only worn in funerals, and it will make you look so old, so sad and unflattering. I mean, I get it, to be fair, isn’t black just the “absence of color”?
However, Black can have a different symbolic meaning for everyone and every individual can have a different reaction to this color. I personally love this color so much that I almost wear it every day, and the people who know me hardly see me wearing bright colors. I don’t know what so attracting about this, but every time I wear it, I feel so happy and confident. I love this color so much that I’m dedicating this post only to it.
And if Black isn’t your color, well, I guess after you’ll read this post, you will change your mind.
First thing first, let’s bring a little bit of psychology in here.
So in psychology, Black can be associated with the water elements and evokes power, mystery, and calm. It even can have a grounding effect when it is used sparingly. The color black has some powerful effects and can be associated with a sophisticated lifestyle, just think of a person wearing a little black dress or a formal dinner suit. The positive traits of black include protection and comfort, as well as, strong, contained, formal, sophisticated, seductive, mysterious, endings and beginnings. There is even a black crystal or a black healing stone that helps chase away the negative energy and protects you from many forms of negative energy.
Now, let’s talk Science; A new survey says those who wear black are actually seen as “serious, reliable and [a] solid player,” and the color channels confidence. The 1,000-person survey, conducted by Buytshirtsonline — a U.K.-based whole supplier for companies like Fruit of the Loom, Gildan and American Apparel — investigated how clothing colors affect the way others perceive us. For most traits, black actually came out on top, the survey findings state: “Black is the color to wear when you’re trying to impress, reassure or woo. There’s a certain trustworthiness about it on a person that would make you hand over your life savings and thank them for the privilege. … Throughout all our survey, black came first or second in most ‘good’ traits (for example confidence, intelligence and sexiness) and barely figured in the ‘bad’ traits (arrogance).” Almost half of the women and 64% of men agreed that black exudes confidence
So, as you can see, Black is generally seen as being “serious” and “reliable,” so it ranks at the top on the list of colors that both sexes find attractive in another person.
On a deeper level, black can feel like a shield or a way to assert some control. Yes, Black is linked to power because it indicates strength and discipline
Now here the top 3 reasons why I love Black:
I never get tired of black. It looks elegant and simple and modern even though it can be made up of so many different fabrics and styles. So I’m always finding new ways to wear and to style black. And that’s what I like about it, it’s the diversity, the richness in this color. I can match it with any other color I want, because Black looks good with any color. Or I can simply wear everything black and still rock my fashion sense!
Black is my armor. It adds a note of seriousness to my presence, and I like it that way. It’s a warning: this person is not to be fucked with. Black makes me look as badass as I feel. So it shouldn’t come as a shock that black has me feeling confident. From a fashion perspective, it helps me feel put-together, elegant, eliminating questions of “Does this match?” from the daily equation, and be easily classy and sophisticated.
Yes, and Black allows me to be me. I don’t care about buying into trends and I don’t want to wear what everybody is wearing. I see every aspect of my life as a potential avenue of self-expression, and I was never the one to just “follow the crowd” on anything. Believe it or not, when I wear black, I do not act with the intention of winning over people’s praises, I rather be true to myself and feel good in my own skin and in my outfit.
