How to stop being negative?

For many of us, it is hard to stop being negative when everything around us is falling apart and worsening by the minute. It’s hard to look on the bright side when you are in a negative situation. The negative thoughts start clouding your mind and blurring your judgment, and you get depressed easily. But here’s a thing, being negative won’t get you anywhere and the more negative you are, the worse you end up feeling. So do you want to know how to stop being negative and how do you stay positive during these tough times? Here are 5 effective ways that work for me every time and that will help you get through it.

1.Positive affirmations

Saying positive things about yourself over and over and over will not only help you feel good but it will also help you hunt those bad negative thoughts and get rid of them. So basically if you keep repeating some positive affirmations daily, you will program your subconscious mind to always stay positive. Say to yourself statements like “I am positive”, “I only look at the positive and the good side of things”, “I am in charge of how I feel and today I am choosing happiness”. You’ll be amazed how much your life improves.

2. Be productive

It is really important to be productive and to feel productive. No matter what you do, do something. Because when you do something, you won’t have time to do things you shouldn’t be doing like complaining, listening to your negative thoughts. Always be open to try new things and take actions, this will not only stop you from being negative but it will also help you build self-esteem and make your situation better overtime.

3. Do more of what makes you happy and relaxed

In order to stop being negative, you should be willing to help yourself by yourself. The small task to begin with is simply doing things that make you happy. When negativity comes, a lot of people tend to give up and do nothing about it. This is the wrong thing to do. Stop being a victim of your own negative thoughts and chase them by doing something you love and by doing things that make you laugh and feel good like watching a comedy movie, dancing to your favorite song…

4. Change your environment

Take a look at the people who surround you: are they making you feel better or only making the situation worst? If they are negative, well you should know that negativity is actually contagious. In other words, being constantly exposed to negative interactions will have a negative impact on our emotions and attitudes. So it’s really important to be surrounded by positive people who will say positive words that will eventually affect your words and your own line of thinking.

5. Embrace the present moment

Thinking about the past or the future will only let feel more anxious. If you find yourself dwelling on something that either has already happened or has yet to occur, know that you cannot control the past and the future. The only thing you have control over is the present. Learn how to embrace and live more in the present moment. How do you stay positive?
