5 proved tips to make your nail polish last longer

Every one of us has at least struggled once in their lifetime with chipped manicures. You spend hours painting your nails and waiting for them to dry, but right after they smudge or only two days later they start chipping. I know it’s horrible, right?! If you typed “how to make your nail polish last longer?”, you are going to get so many misleading tips that it can be hard to determine if they actually work or not. But don’t worry; I tried them all for you to come up finally with the great 5 proved tips to make your nail polish last longer and to help you get to a long-lasting, stunning manicure.

Clean your nails before you apply the basecoat

You have to remove any product buildup or natural oils on your nails. Why? Because they can actually create a barrier between and your nails which makes you nail polish easy to peel off in the two days, maximum. To do that, use a cotton swab to wipe down your nails with white vinegar. Once your nails dry, apply your favorite basecoat.

Use a sticky basecoat

When it comes to choosing the right basecoat for your nails, especially if you want to make them stay for a long time; I recommend you buying a sticky basecoat. From its name, you see its utility. That’s right! Sticky basecoat helps your nail polish stay in place for quite a period of time. The best sticky basecoat I could think of right now is CND Stickey Base Coat, and it’s only 9 bucks.

Don’t skip the “free edge” of your nails

When you apply your basecoat, your nail polish, or even your topcoat; don’t forget to ensure your entire nail is sealed. Because every time our nails start shipping, it is going to start from the tips of your nails. So don’t forget them. Another quick tip, try to apply two coats of basecoat to the tips of your nails.

Take care of your nails

I wrote a whole another post on how to take care of your nails. You should be willing to protect your nails and take care of them if you want your nail polish to last longer. So to prevent them from chipping or smudging, for example try to avoid submerge your nails in hot water and harsh cleaning chemicals. Another quick tip, if your nail polish has started chipping, file your tips down and seal them with another layer of topcoat. But don’t paint them over or you’ll get bumpy nails.

Choose a good quality nail polish

This may sound stupid but the quality of your nail polish can make a huge difference if you want it to stay much longer on your nails. Trust me, when I put a bad quality nail polish, I started peeling off literally the next day, and not just from the tips, the whole nail! That was really bad. Even though I applied a sticky base coat, I doubled the layers of the nail polish and the topcoat; I wore gloves every time I did the dishes. I tried everything to make it last longer, but it didn’t. And that’s how I knew how important it is to choose a good quality nail polish.
